FBGP’s Giants Mini Camp Coverage: Day 2

Day 2 Mini Camp Notes:

– CB Janoris Jenkins had a stellar day breaking up two passes in the Red Zone 7-on-7 periods. You quickly understand why he’s called the ‘jackrabbit’.

– What’s noticeable about the Giants defense, at the 2nd and 3rd levels, is how interchangeable the parts are. The NFL is has become a league predicated on match ups, and the Giants have the ability to play great matchup defense. At full strength, linebackers, corners and safeties all have the ability to hold their own in 1-on-1 coverage or in space. This should make an already strong defense even stronger.

– Paul Perkins has the vision to pick up a ton of ‘hidden’ yards this year. With the way the Giants plan to play offense, Perkins should be the direct beneficiary of a reduced box and will have that backside cutback any time he wants it.

– TE Matt LaCosse has put together back-to-back excellent practices. He’s been one of the younger offensive guys that has fully maximized his reps. He had a couple of nice touchdown receptions in the 7-on-7 period.

– Without giving away too much detail, the Giants offense will feature a bevy of formations and personnel groupings that’ll frustrate every defense they will face this season. Between the draft and FA signings, the Giants offense will be more explosive and dynamic in 2017.
