“What I Would Do” Mock

1. Browns: Deshaun Watson, Clemson
Hue Jackson gets a quarterback that can be the face of the franchise and end the streak of struggles at the position. Cleveland is dying for a quarterback and Watson is the best in the draft. He was a part of a resurgence at Clemson. His next task will be getting things back on track for the Browns.

2. 49ers: Jamal Adams, LSU
Adams is a tone setter on defense. New GM John Lynch knows the importance of having a defense that is tough up the middle after being in Tampa with Hall of Famers Derrick Brooks and Warren Sapp. The 49ers have an up and coming defensive tackle tandem, Navarro Bowman is back from injury. Adams gives them a punishing tackler that can play in the box or with his range in coverage.

3. Bears: Jonathan Allen, Alabama
Allen is a perfect fit for Vic Fangio’s defense that features 3-4 concepts. He can play any position up front but will be used mostly as three technique. He can also move inside when Fangio wants to use a Nascar package.

4. Jaguars: Solomon Thomas, Stanford
Thomas gives the Jaguars an interior pass rusher to go along with Yannick Ngakoue and Dante Fowler. He ended his college career on a high note and will need to carry that momentum into training camp as a rookie.

5. Titans: Myles Garrett, Texas A&M
The Titans get a player that many people feel is the best in the draft. Adding a pass rusher to get to Andrew Luck is important for any team in the AFC South. Garrett is a much-needed piece to add to Tennesee’s defense.

6. Jets: Malik Hooker, Ohio St
Calvin Pryor is tough in the box safety that would benefit from having a rangy ball hawk like Hooker. Adding a player that can cover the ground like Hooker will help the Jets’ secondary. Mix that with the addition of Morris Claiborne suddenly the arrow is pointing up for New York’s pass defense.

7. Chargers: Marshon Lattimore, Ohio St
Lattimore is known for his athleticism after one season starting at Ohio State. Pairing him with Jason Verret gives the Chargers an impressive duo on the outside. If he can overcome issues with his hamstrings, Lattimore can have an instant impact at the next level.

8. Panthers: Leonard Fournette, LSU
Few teams are committed to pounding the football the Panthers are. Fournette is the kind of back that gets better as the game goes on. His physical running style will wear defenses down and fits the overall mentality on the Panthers.

9. Bengals: Reuben Foster, Alabama
The Bengals are no stranger to taking on players that have something to prove due to various circumstances. Foster is a top 5 quality talent that will give Cincinnati another relentless linebacker to pair with Vontaze Burfict.

10. Bills: O.J. Howard, Alabama
Howard is one of the top weapons in the draft. He presents matchup problems for defensive backs and linebackers. Tyrod Taylor gets an instant impact player in the red zone that can be used in line, flexed or lined up over the numbers.

11. Saints: Gareon Conley, Ohio St
New Orleans gets their cover guy after trying to land Malcolm Butler via trade Conley will start immediately and has the skills to help the Saints’ secondary make drastic improvements. Conly has the length to match up against Kelvin Benjamin and Mike Evans, both of which are assignments he’ll draw as a rookie.

12. Browns: Derek Barnett, Tennessee
Cleveland comes back and gets a pass rusher that is potentially a better player than Garrett. Barnett can be used off of the edge as well as looping inside on stunts. His strong hands keep him clean, and his brute strength will help him use his bull rush.

13. Cardinals: John Ross, Washington
Speed is the name of the game. Ross is easily the fastest player in the draft. Pairing him with Carson Palmer and Bruce Arians’ vertical passing game will make Arizona hard to stop. Imagine having Larry Fitzgerald working the intermediate routes and David Johnson catching the ball out of the backfield. Don’t forget the speed that John Brown brings as well.

14. Eagles: Dalvin Cook, Florida State
The Eagles need a home run hitter at running back. Cook is the best match for the Eagles offense. He can do plenty of damage even when he gets under 20 carries. Cook’s ability to see a hole and cutback to open rushing lanes will go right along with the zone concepts that Doug Pederson uses. He can also catch the ball out of the backfield.

15. Colts: Ryan Ramczyk, Wisconsin
Protecting Andrew Luck is the most important goal for new GM Chris Ballard and the Colts. Ramczyk is one of the top tackles in the draft and becomes an instant starter. He and Anthony Constanzo could be long term options at both tackle spots for Indianapolis.

16. Ravens: Corey Davis, Western Michigan
Davis brings the tough mentality to Baltimore’s offense that was lost when Steve Smith Sr. retired. The Ravens need a receiver that can impact the game from the slot as well as outside. Perhaps one of the best yards after catch wideouts, Davis will space to run routes thanks to the deep threat the Ravens have in Mike Wallace.

17. Redskins: Mike Williams, Clemson
Adding Terrelle Pryor will give the Redskins a much-needed presence on the outside. He is only on a one-year deal and could command a big contract if he has another solid year. Williams could be the future at the position, teaming with Jamison Crowder, Josh Doctson, and Jordan Reed would make their passing game virtually unstoppable.

18. Titans: Charles Harris, Missouri
Tennessee doubles down on pass rushers, securing bookend hunters for years to come. The Titans need to improve their pass defense and one of the best ways to do so is to improve their ability to get to the quarterback.

19. Buccaneers: Christian McCaffrey, Stanford
Not having Doug Martin to start the season makes things a bit more difficult for the Bucs. Their passing game will be intact with Jameis Winston as one of the best young quarterbacks. McCaffrey will rarely see eighth in the box thanks to Winston, Mike Evans, and the addition of DeSean Jackson. He will also see plenty of one on one matchups against linebackers out of the backfield.

20. Broncos: Cam Robinson, Alabama
Desperately in need of help at left tackle, Denver is pleased that Robinson is on the board when they pick. He comes in and starts right away after Russell Okung moved on via free agency.

21. Lions: Hasaan Reddick, Temple
Reddick gives the Lions a playmaking linebacker that can cover, rush the passer, and track down running backs anywhere on the field.

22. Dolphins: Forrest Lamp, Western Kentucky
Lamp is the next addition to an offensive line that has been heavily invested in with first round picks and free agents. The Dolphins move Lamp inside to guard while Leramy Tunsill takes over at left tackle.

23. Giants: Garrett Bolles, Utah
Bolles is a nasty but athletic tackle that will remind a lot of people of 49ers left tackle Joe Staley. Like Staley, Bolles can play either left or right tackle. If the Giants want to keep Erick Flowers on the left side, Bolles will start at right tackle.

24. Raiders: Jarrad Davis, Florida
Improving the run defense is a priority for the Raiders. Davis is a heat-seeking missile at linebacker that should get the opportunity to man the middle of the defense.

25. Texans: Pat Mahomes, Texas Tech
Mahomes is the quarterback with the most upside in the draft. The young gunslinger will get the chance compete with Tom Savage to deliver the ball to Will Fuller and DeAndre Hopkins. Expect Mahomes to start for the Texans and give them a chance to compete for an AFC South title.

26. Seahawks: Kevin King, Washington
King stays in Seattle and gets to play on the opposite side of Richard Sherman. His ability to thrive in both zone and man coverage is a match for the Seahawks. Having Kam Chancellor and Earl Thomas playing behind him will only help King even more.

27. Chiefs: Zach Cunningham, Vanderbilt
Derrick Johnson is working his way back from injury and not getting any younger. Cunningham is an athletic linebacker that has plenty of playmaking skills to take over one of the inside linebacker spots on the Chiefs defense.

28. Cowboys: Tre’Davious White, LSU
Dallas needs cornerbacks. Bringing White into the fold is an interesting pick because he reminds me of Mo Claiborne. Both players had solid man to man coverage skills. White will start right away on the opposite side of free agent acquisition Nolan Carroll.

29. Packers: Marlon Humphrey, Alabama
Humphrey brings a physical element to the Packers secondary. Green Bay needs a rugged cornerback to go against tougher receivers in their division such as Dez Bryant and Golden Tate.

30. Steelers: Deshone Kizer, Notre Dame
Ben Roethlisberger is not getting any younger. Kizer is a player with a similar skill set thanks to his big body, cannon arm, and ability to make plays on the move. He becomes the heir apparent to Big Ben and gets to throw the ball to All-Pro wideout Antonio Brown for years to come.

31. Falcons: Tak McKinnley, UCLA
Vic Beasley led the NFL in sacks last season. He will draw plenty of double teams in 2017 The Falcons need a player on the opposite side that will make teams pay. Atlanta’s offense strives to get the team an early lead which allows the defense to pin their ears back and attack the quarterback.
32. Saints: Taco Charlton, Michigan
New Orleans adds another player that will help their pass defense. Charlton is a long player that will come off the edge to go after the quarterback. A healthy Hau’oli Kikaha and Charlton should make the Saints pass rush much better.
